Parody or conspiracy?

Before I got into Ground Zero, this would merely have been funny.

The Onion is a parody news site. They have a counterpart, The Onion Radio News.

Today, while I was in the car, a station played the rerun of this story from 2005:

Bush Determined To Find Warehouse Where Ark Of Covenant Is Stored

WASHINGTON, DC—In a surprise press conference Monday, President Bush said he will not rest until the warehouse where the Ark of the Covenant, the vessel holding the original Ten Commandments, is located. "Nazis stole the Ark in 1936, but it was recovered by a single patriot, who braved gunfire, rolling boulders, and venomous snakes," Bush said, addressing the White House press corps. "Sadly, due to bureaucratic rigmarole, this powerful, historic relic was misplaced in a warehouse. Mark my words: We will find that warehouse." Bush added that, after they are strengthened by the power of the Ark, U.S. forces will seek out and destroy the sinister Temple of Doom.

The reason I spat iced tea at hearing this was not that it was funny (though it is), but can best be understood by reading the Ground Zero articles I've included with this post. They deal with Hitler's and FDR's interest in the occult, and the aspects of our involvement in the Middle East which indicate that Bush has similar interests.

Laugh, scoff or believe...it'll make you think. Enjoy.

Okay, okay, we'll negotiate with SOME terrorists. But not the really naughty ones

US may negotiate with Iraqi insurgents

"One element of the plan is to try to identify groups of people -- including possibly Sunni extremists and militia groups -- with whom U.S. officials feel they can do business, such as negotiating power-sharing and cease-fire agreements and granting economic aid, the sources said."

Maybe this will work because, essentially, the hawks and the insurgents are on the same side. They each want to abolish the status quo of America.
